Making Connections
Here are some ideas on where people can make friends and meet people to date. Most are in SF and geared towards people in their 30's. But can be applicable to other ages and cities too. These are situations where you can attend something repeatedly over time to get to know others, or work with others towards a common goal.
Exercise Clubs... Midnight Runners, Golden Gate Triathlon Club, SF Tri
Sports leagues: Lacrosse, Frisbee, Kickball, Softball Leagues etc...
SF meeting place: The Center.
Camp for the weekend at Sherman Island and Kite Board.
Meditation groups: East Bay 20's/30's, Redwood City Insight Meditation Center Groups, Young Urban Group at Zen Center in SF, Berkeley Alembic.
Social clubs: St. Francis Yacht Club, South Beach Yacht Club, Sausalito Cruising Club, The Battery, Chief.com (For these you need to find a couple of people in the club to sponsor your membership. If you do, you can get on committees and get to know people.)
Social Dancing Groups: Lindy in the Park, List of Bay Area Social Dance events and classes
Solo Dancing: Ecstatic Dance, Open Floor Dancing, 5Rhythms, San Rafael Ecstatic Dance, Rolling with the Homos
Music Schools -- where you play in a band with others over time, or take a class: Blue Bear School of Music in SF, Cross Roads School of Music in Marin
Hiking Groups: 510 Hikers, Sierra Club,
Campout Dance Events: Priceless, Sunset Campout
Good People Dinners (always a stimulating speaker and good group)
Also, it's good to volunteer at events one is interested in. Like helping out at Ted Talk events, conferences, meditation events, sporting races -- helps you meet others, share contact info sometimes, and work together for a common goal.
